Featuring performances by:

MICHAEL PISARO, composer and guitarist, a member of the Wandelweiser Composers Ensemble and founder and director of the Experimental Music Workshop, Calarts. (http://michaelpisaro.blogspot.com/)

LAURA STEENBERGE, performer and composer based in Los Angeles who researches language, the voice, mythology and acoustics. Influenced by folk music, psycholinguistics, acoustics and medieval Byzantine chant, collectively her work is a study of nonsense and the boundaries of knowledge. A multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and public speaker, Steenberge uses voice, contrabass, viola da gamba, objects, images to create works in traditional and site-specific locations throughout California, including SF MOMA, the Sutro Baths, the Hammer Museum, REDCAT and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She holds BAs in music and linguistics from the University of Southern California, an MFA in composer/performer and integrated media from CalArts, and a DMA in music composition from Stanford University. She teaches experimental sound practices at CalArts. (https://laurasteenbergeportfolio.com/)

TIM FEENEY, Improviser, composer, and interpreter. Tim Feeney seeks to explore and examine the possibilities inherent in unstable sound and duration. Tim began working in this thread in 2002, within Boston’s community of improvisers interested in austere combinations of sounds and silences, and has since performed and recorded with musicians throughout the United States and abroad. He frequently collaborates with artists including the trio Meridian, with percussionists Sarah Hennies and Greg Stuart, pianist Annie Lewandowski, cellist and electronic musician Vic Rawlings, vocalist Ken Ueno, saxophonist Andrew Raffo Dewar, banjo and electronic musician Holland Hopson, trumpeter Nate Wooley, sound artists Jed Speare and Ernst Karel, video artist Jane Cassidy, and many others. MATT BARBIER, an LA based trombonist and composer focused on experimental intonation, noise, and the physical processes of his instrument. His playing has been described by the LA Times as being “of intense, brilliant, virtuosic growling that gave the striking impression that Barbier was dismantling the instrument while playing it,” by the Wire as “exploring the nooks of instrumental tone far beyond the reach of most mortals,” and by the New Yorker as being a “diabolically inventive trombonist-composer.” (http://www.mattbarbier.com/)

TJ BORDEN, T.J. Borden is a musician working in and around the constraints of the cello. Hailing from Western NY, he is now based in Philadelphia, where he spends much of his time exploring ways to exploit the strengths and failures of himself and his instrument. These explorations have either accrued with the practice of or have been pursued through multiple approaches/styles, including improvisation, noise, Western art music, drone, and performance art. Recently, in addition to his solo and collaborative excursions, T.J. has joined the Mivos Quartet as their new cellist. (https://tylerjborden.com/)
