Tom Hall is an audio/visual artist based in Los Angeles.Hall makes environmental-based music without being ambient music; presented with a strong sense of construction, and yet it favors circularity to linear development, as if accompanying the composer in his spiritual quest for a center, and for a balance with the surrounding space.

Yann Novak is an artist, composer, and curator based in Los Angeles. His work is guided by his interests in perception, context, movement, and the felt presence of direct experience. Through the use of sound and light, Novak explores how these intangible materials can act as catalysts to focus our awareness on our present location in space and time. Novak’s diverse body of works – audiovisual installations, performances, recording, and prints – ask participants to reclaim the present moment as a political act. His recorded sound works have been published by Crónica, Porto; Dronarivm, Moscow; Farmacia901, Berlin; Hibernate, Leeds; Home Normal, London; LINE Imprint, Los Angeles; Tigerbeat6, Los Angeles; and Touch, London, among others.

The works included in This is how it ends were realized during or inspired by The Arctic Circle art/science residency program’s October 2015 expedition. Piper Mavis earned her BA from Bennington College in the United States and her MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art in the United Kingdom. She has exhibited internationally. Robert Crouch is an artist and curator whose work encompasses sound, performance, and technology. As an artist, he locates his work with the intersection of post-phenomenological listening practices, conceptual sound art, and contemporary electronic music. At its core, his work can be understood as a conversation between tonality, context, history and subjectivities. Similarly, Crouch’s curatorial work focuses on the overlapping disciplines of sound, technology, movement, and performance. For this event, Crouch will present a new audio-visual work in progress, developed in collaboration with artist Joel Westendorf. This new work uses sound and photography to explore the intersections of masculinity, intimacy, and violence.

Crouch has performed and exhibited his work, as well as curated projects, nationally and internationally, at venues including MOCA, LACMA, the Hammer Museum, the De Young Museum, the Stone, LACE, and Human Resources. He has released music on Dragon’s Eye Recordings, Line, and his most recent CD, Sublunar, on Touch.
